Current chief digital & transformation officer Wendy Chang Smith has taken up the post and will be appointed CFO, as well as executive director on Glanbia’s board, on 30 March

Glanbia has announced its next chief financial officer who will take on the role from March.

Wendy Chang Smith, currently chief digital and transformation officer, will take up the post of CFO and board executive director on 30 March.

She takes over the position from incumbent CFO Mark Garvey, who is due to step down before retiring after 13 years with Glanbia on 30 April.

Chang Smith has been with the Irish nutrition business since 2020, previously working as CFO of its Performance Nutrition arm.

Prior to that, she has held senior positions with Amazon, Kellogg’s and Johnson & Johnson, working in the US, Europe and Asia.

Commenting on the announcement, Glanbia CEO Hugh McGuire said Chang Smith’s experience would be “invaluable as we continue to execute our strategy, invest for growth and maintain our strong focus on financial discipline and delivering long-term value for shareholders”.

The decision comes after Glanbia recorded strong revenue and volume growth across all three divisions in the first half of this year and told investors to expect higher profits as demand for protein continues to soar.

“Wendy is a trusted leader within the company and brings significant finance, digital and transformation experience gained across the consumer branded and retail sectors,” McGuire continued.

He also paid tribute to Garvey who “has led the financial stewardship of the group through a period of significant change with a strong focus on disciplined capital allocation and cash generation that has enabled Glanbia to invest in growth and deliver strong returns to our shareholders”.

“Mark leaves Glanbia on a firm financial footing, with an exceptionally strong balance sheet and well positioned for the future,” McGuire said.
