Iceland has expanded its Aquaculture Stewardship Council-certified range in time for Christmas.

The retailer said it was launching eight new products in time for Christmas offering “customers an even wider choice of responsibly farmed options this festive season”.

Earlier this year, Iceland announced it had grown its own-label range of ASC-certified farmed seafood to eight products this year, with a commitment to raise the number to 25 by the end of 2026.

As part of its pledge, all of Iceland’s own-label whole prawn products will be ASC-certified and clearly display the ASC logo.

The move builds on work done by the retailer to ensure 100% of its own label wild fish and seafood was sourced from Marine Stewardship Council certified fisheries.

“Iceland has always been the home of the iconic prawn ring, and now we’re proud to make it sustainable,” said Icelands Foods executive chairman Richard Walker. “Expanding our range of ASC-certified products once again is an important step, especially at a time of year when seafood plays such an important role in celebrations.

“Our customers shouldn’t have to choose between quality, value and doing the right thing, and this range delivers all three,” he added.

The following ASC-certified products will be available in store and online: Iceland Luxury Two Pack Prawn Cocktails (rsp: £5/200g), Iceland Luxury Six XL Battered Tempura King Prawns (rsp: £10/390g), Iceland King Prawn Cocktail Ring With Marie Rose Dip (rsp: £2.50/140g), Iceland Luxury Six King Prawn Samosas With Mango Chutney & Chilli Dip (rsp: £5/220g), Iceland Prawn Toast Selection 30 Pack (rsp: £6/540g), Iceland Ultimate King Prawn Platter (rsp: £10/480g), Iceland Luxury Eight Pack Prawn Cracker Coated Prawns with Sweet Chilli (rsp: £5/270g), and Iceland Luxury King Prawn Ring With Sweet Chilli Sauce (rsp: £4.50/285g).

“Their Christmas range proves that better-farmed seafood can be high-quality, affordable and accessible to everyone,” said Chris Ninnes, CEO of ASC. “It’s encouraging to see a retailer raising the bar at a national scale and this is exactly the kind of leadership that drives real change in our industry.”
