Petfood manufacturers have been particularly innovative over the past month, with two interesting products hitting the shelves. Although healthy petfood is now widely available, there have been some new developments with the introduction of Dog Menu Receta Mediterranea in Spain. Ralston Purina claims that this is the first Mediterranean dog food. Dog menu Receta Mediterranea is made with olive oil and contains a selection of healthy ingredients such as cheese, apple, cooked ham, meats, vegetables, rice and wheat.
Indulgence was also on the dog's menu in France, with Doggy Pro launching Mini Biscuits au Chocolat. The bone-shaped chocolate biscuits for dogs are fortified with fibres and help the scaling of dog's teeth. They are said to be formulated in the same way as human biscuits.
The biscuits sector is becoming more sophisticated and innovative and even artistic. Swiss premium biscuits manufacturer Kambly has launched Mont Choco. This very thin butter biscuit is covered with milk chocolate with nugget pieces. The chocolate coating is in a 3-D mountain design.
In the US, Amurol Confections has launched Gadget Gum & Candy, a sweets dispenser with three secret compartments and a Quick Clip to attach the product to bags or belt loops. The first compartment is the Bubble Gum Gizmo, containing five sticks of Formula X fruit-flavoured chewing gums; the second, called Secret Sucker Storage, contains a bubble gum centre cherry lollipop covered by a plastic dome, which slides up when the dome opens. The third is the Covert Candy Cache, containing fruit-flavoured microchip sweets.
Danone has launched Fruchtzwerge SelbstmachEis onto the kids' market in Germany. This children's dairy dessert is being promoted as a make-your-own ice kit for the summer season. It consists of six-pot multipacks of Fruchtzwerge fromage frais with separate packs of sticks that can be put in the freezer to make frozen lollies. The sticks are also collectable and can double as dominoes when the lollipop has been eaten.
The French market for soft cheese saw a record in low fat content with Besnier's new Bridelight. The company claims Bridelight is the lowest-fat soft ripened cheese available in France. It is a soft ripened cheese with only 15% fat. It naturally contains vitamins B2 and B12, calcium and phosphorus.
