The NPD combines Maldon’s sea salt flakes with tellicherry and pink peppercorns

Maldon has expanded its flavoured salt lineup with Pepper Sea Salt.

Combining its hand-harvested sea salt flakes with tellicherry and pink peppercorns, the “hugely versatile” NPD is claimed by Maldon to elevate the classic pairing of salt and pepper.

It has rolled into 488 Morrisons stores, packaged in plastic tubs (rsp: £2/50g).

The NPD would tap the growing ‘fancy pantry’ trend of upgrading store cupboard staples into gourmet essentials, said Maldon.

Brits were still consuming most of their food and drinks in the comfort of their own home versus pre-Covid times, with 71% of all meal occasions eaten at home [Worldpanel by Numerator 52 w/e 29 December 2024].

This has led to consumer desire to elevate meals with new and interesting ingredients and simpler, smaller packs, which support trial and experimentation in home cooking, Maldon claimed.

“We are passionate about inspiring home cooks and creating products which enhance everyday recipes into something truly exceptional,” said Maldon product portfolio manager Simon James.

“We are delighted to unveil Pepper Sea Salt, an elevated take on the popular combination of salt and pepper, inspiring consumers to experiment in the kitchen with this exciting new product.”

Maldon added Garlic and Chilli flavoured salts in 2023, simultaneously unveiling its Merchants sub-brand of salts sourced from overseas. Merchants launched with Himalayan Pink Salt and Kalahari Desert Salt.
