David Higgins (l) and John McGinnity

Musgrave Northern Ireland has appointed John McGinnity as its new head of wholesale and foodservice and David Higgins as its new retail sales director.

Higgins, who has over 20 years’ fmcg experience, joins the food retail, wholesale and foodservice company from Diageo Ireland, where he was most recently head of spirits, following roles including head of strategic accounts.

In his new position as retail sales director, Higgins will oversee the development of the retail partnership model across Northern Ireland, specifically for Musgrave’s SuperValu, Centra and Mace brands.

McGinnity has worked for Musgrave for 17 years in various trading and sales roles, including his previous position as head of specialist and world food sales for the group’s wholesale partners across the Republic of Ireland.

He will take over the new role from Richard Mayne, who has moved to the position of director of beverage within wholesale and foodservice for Musgrave Group. Mayne will now be responsible for leading the beverage business across the island of Ireland.

“With our ambitious plans to grow our retail store network as well as expand our footprint across the foodservice and wholesale sectors, I am delighted to welcome David and John to the Musgrave NI business,” said Musgrave NI MD Trevor Magill.

“We recently announced our £1.2bn impact on the local economy and I am confident that the experience that David and John bring will ensure we continue to remain a positive force here in Northern Ireland. I would also like to wish Richard the very best in his new role.”
