The launch marks a strategic move by the brands into new ambient aisles beyond core world food

Patak’s and Blue Dragon have tapped into the solo dining market with an eight-strong range of microwaveable meals for one.

It was created in response to “growing demand for convenient meal solutions for one-person meal occasions”, supplier AB World Foods said, citing data showing this accounted for 45% of all at-home meals [Insight Angels, 2023].

The Patak’s range consists of: Korma Curry & Rice, Tikka Masala Curry & Rice, and Madras Curry & Rice. Meanwhile, the Blue Dragon range includes: Chicken Chow Mein, Sweet Chilli Noodles, Chicken Fried Rice, Thai Vegetable Fried Rice, and Korean Style Chicken Fried Rice.

Packs have launched exclusively in Tesco with further rollout planned across Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Ocado (rsp: £3/250g).

Designed to bring more inspiration to solo meals, the products combined “authentic chef-led recipes with high-quality ingredients sourced from Asia”, said AB World Foods. They are ready in just 90 seconds.

The launch marked a strategic move by the brands into new ambient aisles beyond their core world foods category, said Kate O’Mahony, senior innovation manager at AB World Foods, adding this would “unlock new occasions and reach new shoppers”.

“Consumers want convenience without compromise. Our new Meals for One range has been created to deliver high quality, delicious world flavours in a format that is a super-easy grab from the cupboard when you want it,” O’Mahony said.

It comes after Blue Dragon partnered with Oscar Mayer last month to launch a range of chilled meal bowls in Asda.
