Consultancy firm AlixPartners has appointed Paul Martin, the former global head of retail at KPMG, to a newly created role.
Martin started at the firm this week as global retail growth leader following a 12-month period of gardening leave and five-month interim stint as chief transformation officer at a major European retailer.
He told The Grocer it was “good to be back in the thick of things”.
Working from London, Martin will focus on supporting retailers across the UK and the world.
The appointment would further strengthen AlixPartners’ retail practice, and help clients to keep ahead of retail trends and transform disruption across the retail sector into opportunities, the firm said.
Bringing more than two decades of industry experience to the role – most recently at KPMG, where he led on retail for nine years – Martin said he was looking forward to getting stuck into helping businesses navigate a challenging environment.
“The retail industry has not been short on turmoil over recent years, whether it be the cost of living crisis, Covid, or the overall challenges to business and operating models like digitalisation, omnichannel, seamless commerce,” he added.
“Retail is obviously going through some significant changes, and my passion is really helping businesses face those changes and deliver growth.”
Matt Clark, EMEA retail lead at AlixPartners, said: “Retailers have reached a point where growth is non-negotiable – and in today’s market, the addition of Paul’s expertise will further strengthen our ability to deliver market-leading advice to the global retail industry.
“He will undoubtedly bring a host of advantages to AlixPartners’ retail clients and to our already thriving retail practice, being particularly adept at analysing global retail trends and helping businesses understand how they can capitalise on market disruption.”
Global head of retail David Bassuk added: “With the firm’s retail practice having dramatically grown in recent years, we’re delighted to have the opportunity for roles of this nature – and to welcome Paul into our team. Paul joins us at a critical moment for global retail, where agility and insight are more important than ever. His deep expertise across markets and strong track record of advising retailers through change will be invaluable as we help clients navigate disruption and accelerate growth.”
AlixPartners is headquartered in New York, and has offices in more than 20 cities around the world.
