Pladis will invest £21m into its Stockport factory, where McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes are made

Pladis has ploughed £68m into upgrades at its UK manufacturing sites.

The investment will primarily benefit its sites in the north west of England, increasing both their capacity and productivity. It will also be used to further automation and improve factory infrastructure.

Pladis’ Stockport factory, where McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes and Penguins are made, will receive a £21m investment to introduce a chocolate moulding line using new robotic technology.

Meanwhile, its Jacob’s Cream Crackers site in Aintree, Liverpool will receive £33m for refurbishment, including new ovens and infrastructure. Pladis’ Carlisle factory will receive a £2m investment into its savoury assortments operations, which will result in the onboarding and training of 48 new employees.

Additionally, a sum of £12m has been allocated to support infrastructure across other UK sites, including those in Halifax, Harlesden and Leicester.

The rollout of the investment is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

“Today’s announcement is an important milestone in renovating our sites and unlocking capacity for our growth story,” said Pladis UK & Ireland MD Mete Buyurgan.

“We have a fantastic suite of much-loved brands, baked by dedicated colleagues, and we have a responsibility to continue to nurture these brands for customers and consumers across the world. The news of these investments we are sharing today will enable us to achieve this.”

Pladis’ revenue grew by 8% year on year to £2.8bn in the year to 31 December 2023, according to accounts filed at Companies House.
