The new owners of one of the oldest grocery stores in the UK - Trumps, in Sidmouth, Devon - plan to keep the 192-year-old store in its original format.
Mark and Jackie Feeney, from Newton Poppleford, three miles away, have told the agent Christie & Co that they also intend to improve the store’s offering by adding local farmers’ market produce and staging free weekly tastings.
The store was established in 1813 by Sarah Gove, who later married John Trump after whom the store was named. It retains many of its original fittings.
The previous owner, Geoff Van Hegan, had owned the 2,000 sq ft store since 2001. He is retiring to New Zealand.
