Pret a Manger has opened its first drive-thru shop, marking a new trial format as the food-to-go brand continues to expand its presence in transport and travel locations.

Opening today (5 May) in partnership with Motor Fuel Group, the drive thru is located in Warrington, off the M6 at junction 21.

It features one lane for vehicles with a digital menu board showcasing Pret’s food and drink selection, which includes hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salads, snacks and baked goods.

The 2,000 sq ft shop offers seating for up to 48 people inside, alongside EV charging points and customer toilets.

It adds to Pret’s portfolio of transport and travel locations. The coffee chain currently operates 220 shops in airports, stations and motorway service areas across the UK, 35 of which are operated by Motor Fuel Group.

“Travel hubs and roadside locations present a huge growth opportunity for Pret, making the launch of our first drive thru a natural next step in our expansion,” said Pret a Manger UK & Ireland president Ross Warnes.

“It’s all part of our strategy of meeting customers where they are, while still delivering the same friendly, speedy service and freshly made food we’re known for. Our teams have worked incredibly hard to deliver this new Pret experience, and we can’t wait to start welcoming customers soon.”

In March, Pret opened three new shops in partnership with Roadchef as part of this strategy to expand into more travel hub locations.

The roadside shops opened at Rownhams Westbound Services, Stafford Southbound Services and Chester Services.
