The format is being trialled in Pret's Broughty Ferry store this month

Pret a Manger is launching a new shop format with a made-to-order food and drink service, encouraging customers to dine in for longer visits.

The format is being trialled in its new Broughty Ferry and Maidenhead stores this month, as the coffee chain continues to expand outside of London.

While Pret’s London presence is synonymous with ‘grab & go’ sandwiches, baguettes and salads that are made on site and displayed in refrigerated shelves, the new format will feature just one ‘ready-to-go’ refrigerated shelf for customers on the move.

Instead, there will be more space for dine-in visits, with full porcelain crockery provided and a longer counter where customers can watch products being made. There will also be a Little Stars Café play area for families with young children.

The new made-to-order menu features hot dishes, breakfast options and a sweet bakery range

The new made-to-order menu, which is exclusive to the trial stores, features hot items including a Meatball & Red Pepper Tapenade Ciabatta Sub and a Caprese Melt Toastie, as well as breakfast options such as Cinnamon Butter & Banana Sourdough Toast, savoury croissants and a sweet treats bakery range including tarts and cakes.

Pret’s baristas will also serve a lightly roasted organic coffee blend exclusive to these new shops, in addition to its classic 100% organic arabica coffee and selection of hot and cold drinks.

The new store openings come as Pret reaches 500 shops across the UK, with 82% of the new sites since January 2023 opening outside of London.

Pret’s franchise partners Hala Group (Maidenhead) and Joup Group (Dundee) will operate the new shops.

“Throughout the past five years, we’ve made it a priority to bring Pret to more people, whether you’re a city worker commuting to the office, a parent juggling work and family life, or someone catching up with friends,” said Pret MD for UK and Europe Clare Clough.

“Now, we’re taking that further, making Pret a destination for customers in a bit less of a rush who want a comfortable space to enjoy delicious food and spend time with family and friends. Our teams have been hard at work making sure everything from the shop design to the unique menu items have been carefully thought through and we can’t wait to see how our customers respond.”
