Pret a Manger is to expand its partnership with Heathrow as it plans to open its ninth shop in the airport.
Set to open later this year in Terminal 5 Arrivals, the new shop will feature the food-to-go chain’s full menu and will operate a 24-hour kitchen.
It will also trial mobile handheld tills, allowing Pret team members to take payments on the shop floor during peak periods.
The opening forms an important part of the brand’s strategy to operate in major travel hubs, with Pret now operating over 220 shops in airports, stations and motorway services in the UK. Over the past 20 months alone, 63 Pret shops have opened in travel locations.
“We’re delighted to be growing our partnership with Heathrow,” said Pret a Manger CEO Pano Christou. “Airports are a natural home for Pret, allowing us to reach more customers looking for freshly made food and fast, friendly service while they travel.
“Expanding in major travel hubs is a key part of our growth strategy in the UK, and there’s no better place to do that than one of the world’s busiest airports. We look forward to welcoming customers to our new Terminal 5 Arrivals shop very soon.”
In September, Pret said that one of its biggest goals for the next three years would be to expand further in the US, where it operates around 70 sites. It said a particular focus would be on travel hubs and city centres, as it prepared to open five locations at JFK Airport.
