Beluga Epicure Series II by Lalique

Quick commerce player Zapp is listing a £13,000 vodka on its app for delivery in as little as 20 minutes.

The rapid “premium convenience” delivery service is stocking “one of the world’s rarest and most prestigious vodkas” – Beluga Epicure Series II by Lalique – of which only 888 bottles exist globally.

Zapp said it was “the most expensive spirit ever made available for on-demand delivery in the UK”.

The vodka is a collaboration between Beluga Vodka and the French crystal maison Lalique. Only 888 individually numbered decanters exist, each handblown in Alsace. The vodka itself is made from alpha-grade spirit and pure spring water, then rested for 100 days to achieve “exceptional smoothness”.

“Beluga Epicure Series II is one of the most sought-after vodkas in the world and exactly the kind of extraordinary product our customers expect from Zapp,” said Dan Whine, head of fine wines & spirits at Zapp. “We’re known for curating a distinctive, premium collection you won’t find at traditional retailers and we’re proud to offer this collector’s piece, delivered in minutes. It’s testament to our commitment to making rare and exceptional products instantly accessible.”

Nick Duncan, UK country manager of Beluga owner Noblewood Group, said the listing offered its clients “a new and convenient way to access this limited release”.

“Partnering with a platform that values quality and curation allows us to reach collectors in a new way, those who appreciate both craftsmanship and convenience,” he added.

Zapp launched in late 2020 with a single dark store – or ‘Zappstore’ – in west London, and now operates several micro-fulfilment centres across the capital. It was one of a wave of rapid grocery players launching in the UK at the time, and has since survived swingeing consolidation of the market, which saw rivals Getir, Weezy, Jiffy, Gorillas and Fancy all acquired or shuttered.

In 2023, it undertook a major rebrand to concentrate its focus on affluent, central London customers.

The company – which Lewis Hamilton has invested in – said it is now one of the UK’s largest independent retailers of alcohol, having tripled its sales in the past year.

More than half of its beer, wine and spirits category offering is “dedicated to premium items” including Château Pétrus Pomerol 2000 (£5,499.99), Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2009 (£3,499.99) and Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Armand Rousseau 2009 (£4,499.99). The rare Clase Azul Ultra (£2,649.99), with only 100 bottles worldwide, is also available.

As well as alcohol, Zapp’s luxury-focused in-app ‘Zapp Boutique’ store features a range of brands such as LVMH, Daylesford, Apple, Bamford and Dr Barbara Sturm.

Fortnum & Mason in March announced it was “joining the on-demand delivery movement”, listing 33 SKUs for delivery “in minutes” on Zapp. A “carefully curated” range of products, including the retailer’s signature loose-leaf teas, biscuits and hampers, are now available for Zapp customers across London, 24 hours a day.
