Additional variants, such as Chilli Chicken & Lime and Pepper Steak, will launch in the coming months

Rice-based snack brand Twiggies has made its debut in Morrisons.

Hoisin Duck and Chilli Cheddar Cheese have rolled into the retailer in 65g packs, with an rsp of £1.

Described as “bigger and crunchier” than a Nik Nak, the snacks were “drenched in flavour” and would appeal to younger shoppers, said manufacturer D2 International.

Additional “globally inspired” variants, including Chilli Chicken & Lime; Pepper Steak; Jalapeno, Sour Cream & Onion; and Extra Hot will roll out over the coming months.

“Every feedback we’re getting is that they’re the most flavourful crisps and they actually taste like what they say they taste like,” said Sally Anglesea, NPD & marketing manager at D2 International.

“The flavour of them is very different to anything else that’s on the market.”

D2 International makes products under licence for Del Monte, Peppa Pig, Tabasco and Seriously Cheddar.

In October, it launched a range of frozen potato products in partnership with ridge-cut crisps brand Seabrook.

French Fries in Salt & Vinegar and Cheese & Onion, along with Crinkles in Beefy and Sea Salted, hit Morrisons.

In the same month, Seabrook launched premium crisps range Waves (rsp: £2.25/140g) into Morrisons.

Described by Seabrook as “a more refined, gently wavy cut” crisp, Waves debuted in Wensleydale & Spring Onion, Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar, and Steak & Black Pepper.
