Spanish cherry growers are celebrating the end of a successful season.
Excellent growing conditions since March, in stark comparison to the harsh condition of last year's season, have ensured a bumper harvest of deep red Spanish Picota cherries.
Penny Pidd, senior product manager with Redbridge Produce Marketing, said: "This year the season has lasted for the full six weeks and we have imported 15% more Picota cherries than last year. The quality of the early cherries was also extremely good this year."
A full marketing campaign on behalf of the industry by Foods from Spain ran for the duration of the season.
