Sainsbury’s is offering EV drivers who use its Smart Charge electric vehicle charging network the chance to win one million Nectar points, in its “biggest ever” summer loyalty campaign.
Between 4 to 20 July, any driver who charges their vehicle at any of Sainsbury’s Smart Charge hubs around the UK will be entered into a prize draw, if they have registered their Nectar Card.
One customer will win the equivalent of £5,000 in loyalty points to spend across Sainsbury’s brands, Argos, or with Sainsbury’s Nectar 360 partner brands.

The supermarket is hoping to drive participation in its Smart Charge business, which it has been rapidly rolling out since it launched in January 2024. It now has 650 “ultra-rapid” charging bays at 75 stores, with plans to reach more than 100 sites.
Sainsbury’s was the first supermarket to begin offering loyalty points on its EV chargers, when it rolled the service onto Nectar in June 2024. It has been working to increase the number of benefits offered to users, for example by signing new partnerships with a number of fuel payment and expense card providers.
“Smart Charge makes EV charging simple, reliable, accessible, and affordable for all EV drivers across the UK,” said Sainsbury’s chief property and procurement officer and MD Smart Charge Patrick Dunne, who has overseen the rollout.
“We’re proud to be the UK’s first EV charging service to offer loyalty rewards from Nectar, the UK’s largest multi-partner loyalty programme at our charging hubs,” he said.
The giveaway was a “brilliant way” for Sainsbury’s to further reward its EV users, Dunne said.
It’s the latest expansion of Sainsbury’s Nectar 360 retail media network, as part of a strategy to grow Nectar 360 profits to £100m by 2028.
“With one million points on offer, customers have the freedom to use their reward in ways that are most meaningful to them, from groceries to travel and technology,” said Amir Rasekh, Nectar 360 MD.
“It’s an excellent example of how the Nectar coalition delivers loyalty everyone loves.
“Whether customers are heading off on a summer road trip or simply topping up while doing the weekly shop, this promotion is a great way for us to reward EV drivers through Nectar, offering one lucky customer the chance to win big, while giving all Smart Charge users the benefit of earning points every time they charge,” Rasekh said.
