Sainsbury’s has raised a record £6,508,010 for Sport Relief – £1m more than in 2012.
The bumper figure was raised through the sale of Sport Relief merchandise, as well as customer and staff fundraising events in stores.
The chain also sponsored the first Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games, which took place yesterday.
CEO Justin King also took on his own challenge – running, swimming and cycling with staff across the UK.
“I’m proud to announce this year marks our biggest fundraising for Sport Relief, raising over £6.5m for the charity,” King said.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute – and mile of it – this year also marks the biggest fundraising by our colleagues which shows how committed our colleagues and customers are to supporting a great cause.”
Merchandise sold included T-shirts, water bottles, headbands and the official Sport Relief single Word Up released by Little Mix.
