Shetland Smokehouse has had discussions with a representative of one of the UK’s most prestigious department stores, and is also in the early stages of securing a key distributor for Scotland, following its attendance at the Edinburgh Speciality and Fine Food Fair.
Chief executive Dave Hammond said: “Traditionally the company has been very strong in Europe and further afield. With our excellent transport links to the worldwide market it has proved just as easy to export abroad as supply outlets in Scotland.
“However, as a result of the recent merger with primary pelagic processor Shetland Catch, our strategy is to look at new markets closer to home.”
Sales manager Norma Tulloch said: “During the two-day event we spent time with a buyer from a top UK department store. We provided samples of one of the latest additions to our range - salmon lightly smoked and marinated in Blackwood Distillers’ Nordic Dry Gin.”
