Social media has named Greggs as the brand of choice when purchasing a ‘surprise bag’ of surplus food from Too Good To Go, new data shows.
According to food waste disposal brand InSinkErator, which analysed TikTok data, singular videos of Greggs Too Good To Go bag unboxings have received over 468,000 likes and 5.9 million views.
Just last week, Greggs announced it has saved more than six million meals from going to waste across the UK through its Too Good To Go partnership.
The food-to-go chain first partnered with Too Good To Go in 2021, offering ‘Surprise Bags’ of unsold items such as bakes, sandwiches and sweet treats at a reduced price.
In September, the bakery chain expanded the partnership by launching hot food ‘Greggs Grab Bags’ with items such as Chicken Goujons, Cheese Bites and Potato Wedges from £2.99.
Starbucks was found to be the second favourite among TikTok users with 154,000 likes on a single video. Meanwhile Blank Street, which has gone viral on social media platforms in recent years, following its expansion and the launch of new flavours in its range of matcha drinks, ranked third with 120,900 likes.
According to InSinkErator, TikTok users have reported some bags from these coffee chains contain items worth up to £38.80, purchased for as little as £3.50.
Luxury and premium stores are also popular choices, with both M&S and Harrods being in the top 10. Items in the Harrods bags can include Cajun grilled chicken, crab cakes, cottage pie and salad, with the products in a £12 surprise bag occasionally retailing for around £38.
Bakeries including Gail’s and Millie’s Cookies also continue to gain traction, with TikTok users claiming to have received 30 cookies from Millie’s for £4, and a bag from Gail’s with 28 premium products worth over £100, purchased for as little as £5.
