Southern Co-op has launched a new franchise partnership with Wenzel’s the Bakers as part of the convenience retailer’s expansion into the food-to-go category.

The collaboration, which marks Wenzel’s first ever franchise partnership, aims to expand the British bakery chain’s customer base into new regions across the country.

The first store under the franchise model is set to open in Guildford on 10 September, with more expected to follow in the near future.

“We’re delighted that Southern Co-op has chosen to be our franchise partner and are confident that our collaborative partnership will be mutually beneficial and rewarding in the coming year,” said Wenzel's CEO Sarah Wenzel.

Southern Co-op central services director Nick Smith added: “We're incredibly excited to partner with Wenzel's as they take their first step into franchising.

“This partnership represents a powerful alignment of values – great food, great service and a great opportunity to grow. We're confident that this is only the beginning of a successful journey together.”

Last month, Wenzel's partnered with e-commerce marketplace Groupon to launch exclusive digital offers.

Available via the Groupon platform, Wenzel's customers will be offered a 30% discount, with prices starting at £4.32 once the digital offer has been redeemed.
