Subway is extending its ‘Spudway’ jacket potato trial after it “outperformed expectations”.

The quick-service restaurant brand first launched the trial in February 2025, which saw it offering hot jacket potatoes with toppings from its signature sandwich ingredients, alongside its array of sandwiches and wraps.

As the offering has so far increased both same-store sales and guest traffic in its 170 UK locations, the trial will now run until September 2025.

According to the food-to-go chain, the most popular toppings so far have been the classic cheese and baked beans, as well as tuna mayo and cheese, and taco beef and cheese.

”At Subway, we’re constantly looking for new ways to evolve our menu and provide our guests with delicious options they can feel good about,” said Subway EMEA interim director of innovation and culinary Cathy Goodwin.

”By putting our own spin on this beloved British comfort staple, Spudway has proven to be a huge success with both guests and franchisees, and shows we’re delivering when it comes to providing freshly prepared, convenient and affordable meals that guests love.”

Spudway is the latest in a series of initiatives designed to drive more traffic to restaurants and help increase profitability for franchisees.

The menu innovation also looks to enhance the overall guest experience, alongside the opening of new restaurants, modernising Subway’s image with the rollout of its Fresh Forward 2.0 restaurant design and advancing its digital journey through the implementation of self-serve kiosks and the Subway app.
