Sunrise Beverages acquired Curious in 2023

Sunrise Beverages has announced a £100k investment into its Kent-based Curious Brewery.

The investment would include enhancing production capabilities at Curious Brewery, automating part of the packaging line, and improving manufacturing standards, the UK-based beer group said.

This would “allow the business to optimise the brewing process and continue to enhance quality assurance”, it added.

Investment began last year and will continue into 2026 on a rolling basis.

So far, upgrades include the installation of a flash pasteuriser to allow for processing of Turkish lager Efes, as well as a revamp of Curious’ on-site taproom.

“At Sunrise, our mission is to support and grow the legacy of the businesses we have acquired by investing in not only the facilities, but the people and their expertise too,” said Sunrise Beverages CEO Richard Mather.

Sunrise Beverages was founded after St Peter’s Brewery acquired the Curious Brewing and Wild Beer Co brands from private equity Firm Risk Capital Partners in 2023.

Last year, it grew its portfolio further with the acquisition of Gipsy Hill Brewery and Portobello Brewing. It also produces world lagers Efes and Orien under license for the UK market.

Last month, Sunrise revealed it was to shift production of the majority of Gipsy Hill’s beers out of London.

In an email sent to customers, Gipsy Hill co-founder Charlie Shaw said “eye-watering” rent increases at the brewery’s Hamilton Road site had necessitated the move.
