Tesco has more than doubled its number of local suppliers in Northern Ireland over the past three years.
It has now nearly 140 suppliers based in the devolved nation offering over 1,600 lines including all its own-brand fresh beef, pork, milk and eggs.
In the past year alone, OatCo Superfuel, local butchers K&G McAtamney and six other businesses have partnered with the retailer.
“More than doubling the number of Northern Irish suppliers in the past three years is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the agri-food sector here,” said Tesco head of fresh foods sourcing Northern Ireland Tess Osborne.
As well as beef, pork, milk and eggs, Tesco Northern Ireland’s fresh produce suppliers account for more than 20,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables every year.
Over half of Tesco Northern Ireland’s bakery products are sourced locally, too, with the figure rising to over 85% for bread products.
Osborne added: “These relationships not only ensure high-quality products for our customers but also help support local jobs, farming families and rural communities.”
