Latest data from distributor Seymour focuses on the distributors themselves. The race for the number one distributor title remains very close, says Seymour, with Marketforce still leading the way with a 21.9% share of retail sales value compared to Frontline's 21.7%. However, in terms of retail value versus net sales volume, Seymour is top, probably due to its presence in the highly priced computing market. It has an average weighted cover-price of £2.73. Comag, which also deals with a lot of monthly titles, is the nearest rival at £2.33. Marketforce is much more dependent on weekly sales and sees its figure fall to £1.08 while H Bauer has the lowest figure at 68p, due to most of its sales coming from women's weeklies and TV listings.
n The Guardian is producing its biggest ever fashion handbook for this Saturday's issue. The 72-page pull-out guide to autumn and winter fashion will be stapled inside Weekend magazine. The promotion is supported by a national radio advertising campaign.
Three educational titles from the Scholastic portfolio will be available on a full sale or return basis this month, having moved to distributor Comag. Child Education, Nursery Education and Junior Education will go to SoR terms from the October issues.
