Now is the time to restock your shelves with the latest crop of fine food products which make their debut this month and next.
Among them is Carbonell's Spanish manzanilla olives stuffed with smoked salmon, tuna, lemon, anchovies, pimento and hot peppers in 85g ringpull cans and aimed at the snack market. Size and price (rsp 69p) are designed to encourage trial. Carbonell says Sainsbury is the first major multiple to snap them up.
Merchant Gourmet shops the world in search of gourmet delicacies, its latest being Nanjing black rice from China's rice bowl' region of Jiangsu. A long grain true rice grown in a traditional paddy field, it has a light texture and subtle flavour. Rsp is £1.49 for a 375g box.
Similarly, Bespoke Foods scours Europe, America and Australia for fresh ideas to add to its catalogue of 1,000 lines. Its latest is Lorina, a French sparkling limonade' in four varieties, and the Busha Browne range of authentic Jamaican sauces, jams, jellies and condiments.
RH Amar has augmented its huge range with Cardini marinades citrus lime dill for chicken or fish, honey dijon for chicken or pork, and zesty lemon pepper for chicken and fish, all at an rsp of £1.99.
Chief executive David Mellor hopes they will do as well as Cardini salad dressings which have gone from a niche to mainstream line. "We sell 40 tonnes of the dressings every three days," he says.
L'Aquila believes fine Italian cooking and eating requires top quality simple Italian ingredients, and has extended its Sorriso speciality vegetable range to meet the needs of gourmet palates.
The new lines include semi dried tomato strips in sunflower oil, at an rsp of £2.40 for a 290g jar, de-stoned Taggiasca brown/black olives pressed in extra virgin olive oil, and vacuum packed natural grilled vegetables with a 45 day shelf life.
FAB Foods sees a niche for gourmet savoury snacks and is introducing three Cheddarettes, Baguettes and Hexabites, made with mature cheese, tarragon, garlic, chives and poppy seeds.
