The European Commission has given the go ahead to the sale of United Biscuits to Finalrealm after investment group Hicks, Muse sold its share in the buyout vehicle.
The deal was investigated because Hicks, Muse owns Horizon Biscuits in the UK. That meant Finalrealm would effectively control the UK biscuit market. But Hicks, Muse sold its Finalrealm share to other members including Nabisco.
The Commission says this means there are no longer any competition concerns in the UK, meaning the deal will not be referred to the Competition Commission here.
