Wagamama is expanding its presence in UK travel hubs with the launch of its first restaurant at Birmingham Airport.
Opening today (6 August), the restaurant will be operated by travel hub hospitality operator TRGC. It is located airside within Birmingham Airport’s newly reconfigured space between gates one to 20 and the main departure lounge, seating up to 180 guests.
The menu features Wagamama favourites including Chicken Katsu Curry, Yaki Soba, and ramen dishes, alongside an extensive breakfast offering ranging from a traditional full English to lighter Japanese-inspired options.
The opening marks the latest milestone in TRGC’s long-standing partnership with the restaurant chain and builds on the recent launch of Wagamama ‘on the move’ at Heathrow Terminal 5, the company’s new premium grab-and-go concept developed specifically for airport travel.
Last month, the pair also announced that Wagamama will make its motorway service station debut. Two sites will open in the coming months at Extra MSA’s Beaconsfield Services (M40 J2) and Cobham Services (M25 J9/J10).
TRGC CEO Jonathan Knight said: “Opening Wagamama at Birmingham Airport is another exciting milestone in our long-standing partnership with the brand and further strengthens our commitment to bringing high-quality dining experiences to travellers across the UK.”
It comes as the owner of Wagamama, The Restaurant Group (TRG), recently sold its concessions division to travel dining operator Areas.
The pair said that as part of the Areas Group, TRG Concessions would gain access to “an extensive global network, further operational expertise and a wider portfolio of international franchise brands”.
TRG Concessions will continue to operate the Wagamama brand in UK airports under a franchise agreement, as well as work on expansion opportunities for the Wagamama brand in European airports.
Knight added: “It’s particularly fitting that this opening comes as we celebrate 35 years of airport hospitality, while also looking ahead to an exciting new chapter with Areas that will allow us to continue our expansion and enhance our offering to UK travel hub partners and customers.”
