Wynnstay is set to invest heavily into its Montrose Glasson Fertilisers site to create one of Europe’s largest fertiliser blending plants.
The agricultural group has taken a long-term lease for a “substantially larger” production facility in Montrose, north of Dundee, and has signed a contract for new machinery.
Wynnstay has agreed the disposal of its existing Montrose site, which will be used to partly fund the new investment.
The new facility is expected to double Glasson Fertiliser’s blending capacity at Montrose, creating a “platform to support future organic growth” in Scotland, Wynnstay said.
Production will continue at the existing Cobden Street site until the new plant is fully commissioned in the first half of the 2027 financial year.
The company said the investment – part of Wynnstay’s Genesis growth strategy – would build on the success of its expanded Avonmouth fertiliser operation. The project is expected to generate a return on assets in line with the group’s targets of no less than 10%.
