An ambitious £6m strategy to increase productivity and milk consumption in the north west of England has been launched.

The Northwest Dairy Group unveiled its strategy and action plan last week, in which it outlines plans to increase processing efficiencies, improve animal health and welfare, boost environmental performance and even boost consumption in the region's schools and public sector.

Food Northwest is also working with the group to assess further budget needs. The north west region is home to nearly a quarter of the nation's dairy farms.
