Sainsbury’s has appointed Angie Risley as group HR director to replace Gwyn Burr, who will exit Sainsbury’s in March.

Risley will serve on Sainsbury’s operating board with responsibility for corporate, retail and logistics HR. She will start at Sainsbury’s on 7 January and report into CEO Justin King.

Risley was most recently group HR director at Lloyds Banking Group. She is also a non-executive at Serco, chairing their Remuneration Committee.

“I’m delighted to be joining one of the UK’s largest and most successful employers,” said Risley.

“Sainsbury’s is a fantastic business with an incredible culture built by excellent people, and has earned a well-deserved reputation as a great place to work.”

Justin King said: “Angie brings a wealth of experience having worked at board level in a number of large customer facing companies.”

“Our people are the heart of our business and its success, driving great service every day for our customers, and Angie’s track record and reputation make her an excellent addition to Sainsbury’s leadership team.”
