Food sales are in the ascendancy at M&S and Adcock has played a big part since joining as commercial director for food in 2009. And now he’s running the whole shebang.

As well as his experience in a 20-year career that’s included spells at Sainsbury’s and Asda, Adcock has a distinct advantage in having worked with new M&S CEO Steve Rowe (9) so closely in recent years. And in 2016, he can prove it, particularly given M&S plans to expand dozens of its food halls while cutting back on floorspace devoted to fashion by up to a reported 30%. Plus there are plans afoot to tweak the range focusing further on the meal-for-tonight opportunity.
