Holland & Barrett owner NBTY Europe has appointed Chris Keen to the newly created post of chief finance officer, as chief operating officer Martin Moran retires.

Keen joined the retail group this month from Stonegate Pub Group, where he was CFO. He has extensive experience in retail and hospitality, with other roles including CFO of Bramwell Pub Group and various senior finance positions at Boots and Argos. He is a chartered accountant and has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management.

The position of CFO is a new one at NBTY Europe, which owns Nature’s Way, GNC and De Tuinen, as well as Holland & Barrett. The appointment follows the creation of a chief marketing officer role for former RAC marketing director Lysa Hardy in the autumn.

Keen joins NBTY Europe a month after company veteran Martin Moran retired as COO. Moran worked at Holland & Barrett for 20 years, holding a variety of field roles, culminating in his appointment last year as COO of NBTY Europe.

In a 38-year career in retail, Moran also worked for Tesco, Safeway, Asda and Somerfield.

“My 38-year retail career has been challenging, rewarding and ever-changing. I am now looking forward to some rest and relaxation and finally learning to play golf,” said Moran. “I have always promised my wife I’d take her back to Northern Ireland and I am delighted to keep my promise to her with a relocation there this year.”

Following Moran’s departure, NBTY Europe is on the lookout for a new COO.
