Andrew Wade, marketing manager at Symington’s, on, the M62, brand management and Sherlock Holmes

Describe your career to date? I have always worked in product or brand management, with roles that span across categories as diverse as Christmas crackers to cupcakes.

What is the worst job you've ever had? Working in a grotty pub to top up my salary when I was completing my university placement in London. I hated every minute of it and lasted three months.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing a product I have developed on shelf and selling gives me a real buzz. I also love the autonomy of my role and the fast-paced environment.

What is the least rewarding part? It's frustrating when the projects that you've been working on don't come to fruition. But there is always another project to get your teeth into.

If you didn't work in marketing what would you do? I'd probably be a graphic designer. I enjoy working with design agencies to create something that really stands out as a hobby I've just completed a graphic design course.

If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A helicopter to take me to and from work. The M62 at rush hour is awful and I spend time thinking about other things I could be doing.

What's your nickname? In a previous job, I used to be called Wing-It Wade as I left things to the last minute. I'm much better now. I think.

What is your favourite movie and why? I really enjoyed the latest Sherlock Holmes movie. It was different from the books, but very entertaining and the sets were brilliant a great piece of escapism.

Do you have any phobias? Slugs and snails make my skin crawl. I also can't watch people making fools of themselves on TV. I feel their embarrassment and have to hide behind a cushion.

If you could have a celebrity to join your staff, who would it be and why? Stephen Fry. I'm sure he would have great ideas and he could entertain me with lots of interesting facts.

What would you request as a final meal? A medium-rare steak, fries and a glass or two of good red wine.

What's the weirdest thing you've eaten? Sea urchin. A group of us ordered it to share while on holiday in Barcelona. It tasted like very salty gravy.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? My bed and lots of books.

What animal best suits your personality and why? A dog as I am sociable, loyal and enjoy a long walk.
