Phil Jones appointed MD of Heinz UK and Ireland

Jones is moving up following the promotion of Matt Hill

Heinz has named chief customer officer Phil Jones managing director of its UK and Ireland business.

His promotion follows the appointment of president of UK and Ireland Matt Hill to the role of zone president for Heinz Europe in June.

Heinz also announced this week that Giles Jepson, currently chief marketing officer for UK and Ireland, would additionally take on the role of vice president of marketing for Heinz Europe.

Heinz said the moves would help “simplify, strengthen and leverage the scale of Heinz’s European business”.

Jones joined Heinz in 2006 as foodservice director following 18 years at Coca-Cola Enterprises, where he held senior commercial and strategic roles in sectors including foodservice and leisure.

In 2009, he was promoted to sales director for Heinz UK and Ireland. Later that year, he took on the role of vice president for sales and customer development.

Jepson has been chief marketing officer since May 2012, when he was promoted from the position of director of the Heinz Explore team. He joined Heinz in September 2008 as marketing director for beans, kids and meals, and a year later became marketing director for Heinz sauces, soups and Amoy.

Prior to Heinz, he was marketing director for Lindt & Sprüngli, and also held senior commercial and marketing roles at Colgate-Palmolive.

Jones and Jepson will report to Hill, who was appointed president of Heinz Europe after a year as president of Heinz UK and Ireland.

Hill’s move followed the completion of Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital’s acquisition of Heinz and was part of a global management reshuffle that saw 10 other appointments and 11 departures, including former Heinz UK and Europe president and CEO Dave Woodward.
