Off-trade sales director, AB InBev, on Depeche Mode, Dumb and Dumber and Newcastle United

What was your first-ever job? Working behind the bar in a fantastic community pub in Manchester, while at university - I realised the beer industry and I were a marriage made in heaven.

What’s been your worst job interview? I’ve honestly never had an interview where I wasn’t successful, but I’ve conducted a few howlers.

What was the first music single you bought? Dreaming of Me by Depeche Mode - I grew up with them and still buy everything they release.

How do you describe your job to your mates? It’s not all glamour, but I work in a great category, surrounded by great people, and I love it.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Having the opportunity to lead and develop a great team of people, and drink fantastic brands.

What is the least rewarding part? The annual budget cycle!

What is your motto in life? Live life to the full with a smile on your face.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? An executive box at St James’ Park, Newcastle, ostensibly for corporate entertainment.

Do you have any phobias? A general aversion to badly dispensed beer - I’m obsessed by quality service.

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I’d love to innovate around how beer is dispensed and sold in the off-trade - the next “scaled” step forward from cans and bottles will really reinvigorate the category.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? My three kids, or if not allowed, my CD system and collection.

What animal reflects your personality? A dog - loyal, faithful and pretty easily pleased.

What’s your favourite film and why? Dumb and Dumber still makes me laugh out loud - infantile, but very funny.

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? I’ve had literally hundreds, and I’m pretty sure there’ll be more to come, generally involving my big mouth!

Which celebrity would you most like to work with? Vince Clarke - electronic music god. Not only a personal hero of mine, but I also think there are huge opportunities to further develop the linkage between great music, great experiences and fantastic beer.
