What was your first-ever job? I was a butcher’s boy. I started at 13 and spent three years riding around the hills of Ebbw Vale in all weathers delivering meat to customers. The bike was bigger than me and had no gears!

What’s been your worst job interview? My interview to join the RAF where it dawned on me that I would have to have short hair - quite ironic now

What was the first music single you bought? ‘A Touch Too Much’ by The Arrows - don’t ask me why (I was 13!).

How do you describe your job to your mates? No two hours are the same. It’s a fun environment where our customers are passionate about their businesses… and so are we.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Working with a team of committed people who all have a great attitude.

What is the least rewarding part? The driving.

What is your motto? Winners make it happen, losers let it happen.

What’s your nickname? With a name like Shirley you don’t need a nickname.

If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A teleporter belt.

What’s your favourite movie and why? Cinderella Man: the inspiring story of James Braddock, a supposedly washed-up boxer who came back to become a champion in the 1930s.

What’s been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Accidentally pressing the panic alarm in the Midland bank when being interviewed for a loan by the bank manager. Five local policemen arrived as they thought the bank was being robbed! Awkward - but I still got the loan.

Do you have any phobias? Vegetarians!

If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Usain Bolt, because he’s always one step ahead.

If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? The only thing I’d change is to get people to concentrate on the quality of food more than the price.

What luxury would you have on your desert island? A fishing rod.

What animal best reflects your personality and why? A Welsh border collie sheep dog: I’m Welsh and like the dog I am hardworking, high-energy and good at getting things in boxes.
