Sainsbury’s is trialling a new service that allows shoppers to scan the goods they need to buy using their mobile.

Mobile Scan & Go lets customers scan items as they shop using their iPhone or Android phone and then pay without unloading their trolley at the till.

The technology, which Sainsbury’s claims is the first of its kind in the UK, is being trialled by a “limited number” of Nectar card holders at Sainsbury’s Locals in Bethnal Green and Clerkenwell  in London and at a supermarket in Tadley, Hampshire.

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the shopping experience for our customers,” said Sainsbury’s group development director Luke Jensen.

“Our innovative Mobile Scan & Go technology is fantastic for those wanting to manage their budget or simply those who want a quicker in-store experience.”
