Adult crisps brand Salty Dog is marking its first appearance in the multiples with a new flavour and sharing format.
Asda will be the first big retailer to stock the crisps brand from next week in 150g sea salt and sea salt & malt vinegar variants, as well as the company’s latest flavour, black pepper & ginger.
Salty Dog products have previously been available
only in 35g and 50g bags and in food outlets such as EAT and Puccino’s. The company is also developing a range of premium salted and dry roasted peanuts and cashews, which it plans to launch at Food & Drink Expo in Birmingham in March.
Judy Willis, co-owner of the business, said demand for premium hand-cooked crisps and nuts would continue to grow at the expense of cheaper lines.
In our Top Products Survey (The Grocer, December 17, 2005), we revealed that Walkers Sensations, the biggest mainstream premium crisps brand, dropped nearly £20m over the past year, while KP Nuts fell 2.6% in value.
