Scottish farmers this week picketed supermarkets in a protest at Brazilian beef imports.
The protests were organised by NFU Scotland, which claimed supermarkets were shipping in cheap Brazilian beef at the expense of the Scotch beef produced on their doorsteps.
NFUS president John Kinnaird, attending a demonstration at a Tesco in Edinburgh, said: “While supermarkets demand that all Scotch beef is quality-assured with guarantees on animal welfare, environmental protection and food quality, it seems they adopt a ‘no questions asked’ attitude to some of their foreign imports.”
