A new smoked Cheddar variation has been added to Lactalis McLelland’s Seriously range.

The Seriously Smokey cheese is smoked for four hours over wood from old whisky barrels at the family-owned Rannoch Smokery in Perthshire, the company said.

Lactalis said it was launching the product in the wake of growing consumer interest in smoked cheese. In the past year, sales of smoked cheese have grown 7% to £15.6m [IRI, 52 w/e 17 May].

Smokey joins six other products in the Seriously range: Strong, Smooth, Farmy, Vintage, Lighter and Spreadable.

The brand now has a retail value of £58m.

“Seriously Smokey is authentically smoked and is delivered to the deli counter in a square log shape,” said Seriously marketing manager Renée Milkop-Kerr. “This shape ensures that every portion comes with part of the delicious smoked exterior.”
