Asda has come top for the second week running, with “friendly and welcoming staff” at its “easy to navigate” store in Hunt’s Cross sealing the deal. Our shopper was particularly impressed with the staff member who took her “all the way to the other end of the store” to find a product. Although seven items were unavailable, our shopper was very pleased with store standards and service.

Narrowly missing out on the top spot was Tesco in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. It scored full marks for shop floor service thanks to staff members who gave alternatives to out of stock products and went out of their way to restock an item for her. But the car park was “confusing and poorly lit” and there were “very few trolleys outside the store”, leading to a low score on this section.

Sainsbury’s in Wembley was “busy and noisy” but looked festive. Store standards suffered with various areas needing attention as there were “empty crates and boxes lying around”. The checkouts were “not very clean” with “old food” spotted at checkouts.

A “pleasant shop” was had at Waitrose in Poole, but our shopper found it to be in need of a “revamp”, adding that the “ambience isn’t as warm and welcoming as other Waitrose stores”.

The Christmas displays at Morrisons in Loughborough made the store look “messy and in disarray” according to our shopper. In one aisle the stands were placed in front of the shelves “blocking the merchandise behind”. The store’s ­”welcoming” café was thought to be a plus point.
