US meat processor Smithfield Foods has offloaded all of the assets of RMH Foods, which produces beef, pork and chicken meals for retail, deli and food-service companies.

Smithfield has also sold Maverick Food, whose products include hot dogs, sausages and hams, to joint-venture partner Cofco, China’s largest agricultural trading and processing company.

“These divestitures are examples of how we have altered our strategy to deliver better returns to our shareholders,” said Smithfield chief executive C. Larry Pope.

The meat processor last month reported that sales had improved after a weak year.
