Spain has successfully sold at least 6,000 tonnes of organic strawberries to the UK in the past season according to Douglas Kemp, chairman of AFI Sales. The Huelva region has also been the source of limited arrivals of raspberries. English strawberry production is now concentrated on everbearers such as Everest and Bolero which will last through September. But Kemp has stressed that while the demand for fruit was excellent, it had to achieve a premium price. "You cannot get the crop quality otherwise," he said. Meanwhile the UK raspberry peak has now passed although there will be regular supplies of the late variety Autumn Bliss coming forward into the autumn. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
