Sir, I noticed that in your Focus On Beer & Cider (10 July) alcohol-free beer wasn't given a fair representation considering its growing popularity. At Bavaria, we have experienced year-on-year growth since the birth of our alcohol-free beer and are brewing up a storm in the off-trade market.

Alcohol-free beer has widened its appeal for a number of reasons: concerns over drink driving, work commitments, individuals taking medication, and religious beliefs. It also appeals to dieters, fitness fanatics and pregnant women wishing to take advantage of the natural ingredients, mineral water content and low calories.

People choose alcohol-free as an alternative to sugary soft drinks, while summer, Christmas and New Year are the most popular consumption times. The alcohol-free beers of today are stylish, modern and taste very good, challenging the poor image they have had for many years. Sampling is essential we find that once customers have tried it they become advocates. So there you have it. Alcohol-free beer promotes responsible drinking and tastes good. It's here to stay.
