Budgens

Kavanagh Group, Ireland’s largest independent supermarket company, is to increase its UK store estate.

Noel Kavanagh Jr, MD of Kavanagh Retailing UK, which has five UK Budgens stores, told The Grocer he was in talks to buy a Budgens store from Musgrave in Surrey and open a new-build Budgens in Windsor. They are set to open in the next three to six months. “We have aggressive plans to align ourselves with Musgrave under the Budgens brand and to open eight to 10 stores in the next two years,” he said.

The expansion comes despite Kavanagh Retailing UK’s decision last month to sell its 8,000 sq ft Budgens store in Billingshurst, West Sussex, to Sainsbury’s.
