Premier Foods’ MD Iwan Williams - who has been in the role for only a year - is leaving the business.

The company said Williams, who was brought in to oversee its bakery division, had informed them “a while ago” that he intended to move on. News of Williams’ departure follows last week’s announcement that two of its bakeries are to close two bakeries and comes as The Grocer reveals Asda pulled its Hovis brand from some stores.

Williams joined last October to lead the cake, bread and milling division but his remit grew to include grocery and marketing after Graham Hunter - now CEO at Tangerine Confectionery - turned down the lead grocery role. In February, Williams also took charge of marketing following the departure of marketing director Jon Goldstone. Premier told The Grocer: “Iwan has been a tremendous help in kick-starting the turnaround.” It is not yet known when he will leave the business.
