From Ehrmanns. A new Spanish wine aimed at 25 to 35 year old women Abv: 13.5% Price: £4.99 TARGET CONSUMER Jocelyn Massie, 35, IT consultant from Petersfield I wouldn't normally go for a Spanish wine but if someone pointed this out to me I might be interested. I like Merlot but I don't know anything about Monastrell. The packaging is quite attractive and wines with a black label look classy, as if they need to go with a good steak. It looks a bit different from all the others, even if it is a bit over the top. Some of the back label terminology is also a little over the top and does nothing for me. The blue synthetic cork is a bit offputting, it could look like a bad quality cork. The wine has a very fruity nose and it has a nice peppery bite. There is not too much tannin and the berry flavours are there. I would buy this again  at £4.99 it is quite cheap. For a wine not pretending to be anything special, it is very quaffable, very smooth, and easy drinking. If this had been offered to me in a store for tasting I would probably have bought a bottle. Rating out of 25  17 Sally Easton Master of Wine and wine buyer for Berry Brothers and Rudd This is a marketeer's wine, although from the label I am unsure whether I should be envisaging an inferno or a fiesta. Apparently it is targeted specifically at women although whether that is the label or the wine, I'm not entirely sure. The wine itself has a deep ruby colour and a faint red berry nose. The palate is full bodied with plenty of ripe tannins and soft spicy berry and plum fruit, but it also has a harsh edge to it and a slightly hot and bitter finish. This wine lacks subtlety and finesse although it may well be a good accompaniment to a beefy barbecue. Rating out of 25  6 Graham Shearsby Board creative director, graphics, at Design Bridge At least this is a brave attempt to add some verve to the standard kit of parts that less adventurous wine makers seem to default to. The abstract red swirl is evocative of the wine, the flick of the matador's cape or the flourish of the flamenco dancer. Interesting use of tasting notes/descriptors on the front label, direct and to the point rather than the usual hunt on the back label. Personally I find the overall package a little heavy duty, suggesting a very powerful wine indeed and a little off putting. This could be easily rectified with a little more refined typography. Rating out of 25  17 Steve Mayes Trading controller at Landmark Merlot with attitude. None of the anticipated smooth fruity velvet that it professes  more raw spirit, tabs and tattoos. This is a big wine that at first seems somewhat harsh and unrefined but after a while becomes quite attractive  maybe it's the 13.5% alcohol. Should be good with some appropriate munchies. The label is a real eyecatcher  my best guess is two puppies under a red blanket. The price point is a little too dear at £4.99 but the margins look OK. Overall, Spanish wines need a lift at the moment and whilst Infierno is not the cure-all, it'll do no harm. Rating out of 25  18 Total score out of 100  58 {{DRINKS }}
