Starbucks has claimed its contactless payment app has helped drive a 70% rise in customers joining its loyalty scheme.

The US coffee shop chain, which has 700 UK stores, launched the app in January.

“With a 70% increase in My Starbucks Rewards members over the last 12 months, mobile payment has not only engaged a loyal base of almost one million cardholders, but is also a draw for customers,” said a spokeswoman.
