Tesco’s garden centre chain Dobbies has posted a 22% hike in full-year sales on the back of new store openings.

Sales rose from £111.9m to £136.4m in the year to 29 February, according to results made available at Companies House. Pre-tax profits jumped 5.6% to £10.5m during the period.

Writing in the accounts, the directors said sales had been boosted by the impact of new stores opened in the year before, as well as seven opened during the period for the results.

New sites were opened in Lisburn, Braehead, Ashford, Livingston, Carlisle, Peterborough and Liverpool.

Tesco unveiled plans in June this year to open its first joint store with Dobbies – a development in Kings Lynn (pictured) that would site an 80,000 sq ft Tesco Extra and a 50,000 sq ft Dobbies under a single roof.
