The Co-op will be selling more than 200 ‘essential’ products in special stores in campsite areas for festival goers

The Co-op has agreed a new exclusive partnership with Live Nation to operate stores at major summer music festivals.

The deal will see the society become the first UK food retailer to have a supermarket at four major festivals - Download, Latitude, Reading and Leeds.

The Co-op’s 6,000 sq ft festival shops will sell more than 200 “essential” products and will be re-stocked daily.

They will sell a wide range of items including food, water, beer & wine, toiletries, including medicines, and sun cream and rain ponchos to take account of the unpredictable British weather.

The “fully-staffed” units will open from 7am until 1am. They will be located in the campsite area of each festival.

The Co-op will support the partnership with a comprehensive digital and social media campaign, alongside PR and experiential activities.

“Co-op is all about being close to the customer and it doesn’t get much closer than being right outside your tent,” said Co-op director of marketing communications Amanda Jennings.

Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, the festivals division of Live Nation, said: “Having an environmentally-conscious food retailer like Co-op onsite will give fans easy access to all the products they need while at our festival campsites, while reinforcing our green principles. We look forward to working closely with Co-op throughout the summer.”
